About this converter

WebCodeIn's Environment Variable Converter turns configuration files from any common format into the environment-variable-style formats used by containers, CI/CD pipelines, and 12-factor apps. Paste your Spring Boot application.properties, a Kubernetes ConfigMap, a Docker Compose file, or plain YAML/JSON, and get clean, correctly-cased .env output (or Docker, Kubernetes, shell, TypeScript, and Spring Boot formats) in milliseconds — no upload, no signup, no ads in the way.

How it works

  1. Paste your configuration, or drag & drop a file, into the input panel.
  2. Choose the input and output formats — WebCodeIn detects most formats automatically from the content.
  3. Your converted output appears instantly, computed entirely in your browser.
  4. Copy it to your clipboard or download it as a file. Nothing is uploaded at any point.

Frequently asked questions

Is my configuration uploaded to a server?
No. Parsing and conversion run entirely client-side in your browser via JavaScript. Your pasted configuration and the generated output never leave your device.
Which configuration formats can I convert?
You can convert from .env, .properties (including Spring Boot), YAML (including Spring Boot application.yml, Kubernetes-style, and Docker Compose), JSON, TOML, and INI — into .env, JSON, YAML, Docker Compose, Kubernetes ConfigMap/Secret, shell export, TypeScript, or Spring Boot properties.
How are nested keys handled?
Nested configuration (dotted keys, YAML/JSON objects, arrays) is automatically flattened into environment-variable-style names — e.g. database.credentials.username becomes DATABASE_CREDENTIALS_USERNAME. You can customize the separator, casing, and prefix in Options.
Does it detect secrets like passwords and API keys?
Yes. WebCodeIn flags keys and values that look like credentials (passwords, API keys, tokens, AWS keys, private keys, JWTs) and warns you. You can optionally mask detected secret values before copying or downloading.

Privacy

Conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript — your configuration is never transmitted to our servers just to be converted. We don’t log your input, store it in our database, send it to analytics, or include it in error reports. The only server-side calls this page makes are for anonymous, aggregate usage counters (which format pair was used) and never include your actual configuration or generated output.
